I Met Animal Crossing's Isabelle in Melbourne (And You Can Too)
Nintendo's collaboration with SEA LIFE Melbourne runs until August 17

One of my favourite things about Animal Crossing: New Horizons is capturing specimens of fish, insects, and fossils to share with Blathers, the professorial owl and museum director. Receiving a well-earned "Marvellous!" from Blathers as you bring him a newly-discovered creature is especially rewarding.
Although Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now a few years old, its unique cozy vibe and whimsical sense of discovery remain highly compelling. Given the game's age, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Nintendo Australia & New Zealand have launched a super cute collaboration with SEA LIFE Melbourne. And just this last weekend, the folks at Nintendo invited me along to check out the experience.

Animal Crossing's presence at the SEA LIFE aquarium gamifies the experience with the time-honoured tradition of a collectathon. You'll encounter many fan-favourite Animal Crossing characters throughout the aquarium, with each one functioning like a mini-exhibit. You'll learn more about them, and some of them will carry a special stamp you can use to mark a little catalogue you'll receive upon entry. It won't surprise you to learn that Blathers makes several special appearances to share his extensive knowledge of sea creatures (hosting the beloved museum director himself is certainly a big boon for SEA LIFE Melbourne).

The biggest drawcard for many - myself included - is the opportunity to get a photo with the legendary Isabelle herself. One wonders how Isabelle found the time for such a long stint in Melbourne given her many day-to-day responsibilities on your Animal Crossing island. Maybe she's discovered the joys of remote working.
Oh, and of course, there are some very special additions to the SEA LIFE gift shop (I took home a Blathers plushie; he sits in my partner's office ensuring there's no slacking off during work hours). I was pleased to see Tom Nook and his kids represented in plushie form among other favourites.
